2014 is Over.

2014 has brought many new things. New fashion, new memories, new terms and new songs. I would like to reminisce in 2014 before this wonderful year ends.

What were the popular fashion must-have items for ladies or gentlemen or both this year?
First let's remember some popular fashion, some fashion is anything from the store Rue 21. Some other fashion is Jordans and KD's. Almost everyone is school wear them. Also students wear joggers and jansport backpacks.

What were the popular slang tersm for 2014?
A popular slang term that was used in 2014 is "bae". People use bae as a name for the person they are dating or the person they like. Bae is meant to mean "Before Anyone Else". Some other popular slang terms were "WCW" or "MCM" which is "women crush Wednesday" and "man crush Monday".

What were the top five songs in your phone that you kept on repeat this year?
A big thing in any year is music. A main song that was on repeat on my phone is Drown by Bring Me The Horizon. Another new song is Kick Me by Sleeping with Sirens. One of my favorite singers, Gerard Way singer of My Chemical Romance, became a solo artist and released his first album. I couldn't stop listening to his song "Action Cat' and "No Shows". Frank Iero, the guitarist of My Chemical Romance, began the band Frnkiero andthe Cellabration , I love his song "Joy Riding".
The most popular song in my phone was Demi Lovato's song "Made In The USA".

What were two exciting evens that happened to you this year?
Some big things happened to me in 2014. A really important even that happened was North Carolina's government FINALLY legalized gay marriage. This opened a door for gay people. Another event that happened to me this year was I got back together with my girlfriend Crystal. We dated last year and we got back together. This is a big even to me because I have never wanted to be with someone as much as I want to be with her.

What are two things you would change about yourself in 2015?
Two things I would change about yourself in 2015, is have less drama. This isn't a personal thing really but I can stop getting caught in it or stop having problems with people. Another thing I would about myself is be more social. I am a very "kept to myself" person and it's good sometimes but it makes me feel bad for people who try to talk to me. If I became more social it would make me less shy and more open to people. I only talk to my friends and I don't try to make more friends like most people do.

A current event in 2014 was gay marriage is now legal in North Carolina. This spoke to me because now gay people can finally do what they want. They aren't held back from being with who they want to be with. They are now equal with everyone else. It made me very happy because since I am bisexual, if I want to marry my girlfriend, I can. I can't wait until the world let's gay people get married.

My 2015 word is "chill". I picked this word because I want 2015 to be chill. I don't want all the stress and drama 2014 had. I'm trying to make 2015 less stressful and more chill. I want 2015 to go by without anything that will ruin my good mood or good days. 2015 is going to be chill for me.

Out With 2014 and In With 2015

As 2014 slowly comes to a close we should all look back on the past year. We should all remember the good times, and even the bad times. Some things I personally remember from this year range from  my favorite music to slang words like bae. 2014 has been the year to remember, and here are some good examples of why.

What were some popular fashion must-have items for ladies or gentleman or both this year?
I am not the most fashionable person, but I can tell you some things I loved to wear this year. Something I loved to wear this year was my gray fedora with a black band around it, I loved wearing this hat because I felt comfortable in it and liked how I looked in it. Another must-have item for me was a The Fault in Our Stars bracelet, I loved wearing this because it was full of quotes from TFIOS and full of feels.

What were the popular slang terms for 2014?
Even though I don't like using them, I definitely used and heard slang this year. One of the most used slang terms for me was bae, even though it means poop, I definitely loved using this word. Another slang term that was annoying, yet I used occasionally was Or Nahhhh. This was rather annoying to hear every five minutes or so, but I still used it.

What were the top five songs in your phone that you kept on repeat this year?
Even though I don't have a phone, I did listen to a lot of songs frequently. One song I've probably listened to too much is All I Want by Kodaline. The next song I probably listen to too much is Heavy Crown by Iggy Azalea featuring Ellie Goulding. The third song I over listen to is Dollhouse by Melanie Martinez. The fourth song I listen to a bunch is Bang Bang by Jessie J., Ariana Grande, and Nicki Minaj. The last song I listen to frequently is 18 by Five Seconds of Summer. I love all of these songs, and I can't imagine what my year would have been like without them.

What were two exciting events that happened to you this year?
Something that happened to me this year that was exciting was I found out I was going to be an uncle. My older brother and his wife are having a baby that is due this February and I can't wait! Another exciting thing that was exciting in my was that I went to Kings Dominion around Halloween. This trip was really fun because I love amusement parks and spending time with my family.

What are two things you would like to change about yourself in 2015?
Even though there I would like to change a  lot about myself, these following things seem the best to change. One thing I would like to change about myself is how my sleep schedule. I go to bed about midnight (at the earliest) and wake up at 7:00am, and I need to get more sleep. Another thing I would like to change about myself is how much I procrastinate. I stall a lot, especially when it comes to work.

Find a current event that really brought something out in you/made you think/spoke to you in some way. Explain it and what it made you think about.
Something that really brought something out in me was the death of Robin Williams... This man, who was loved all around the world, killed himself. This just shows how unhappy some people are, no matter what you think of them. This needs to stop. Suicide is a horrible thing that should be dealt with. I don't know about you, but I believe we can help.

Create a word for yourself that is going to be your 2015 word. Find your word, and explain your choice and how you choose to demonstrate this word in 2015.
My 2015 word is going to be "Okay." I choose the word "Okay" not only because it is from my favorite movie The Fault In Our Stars, but it means so much. If something goes wrong, just remember everything will be "okay." "Okay? Okay."

I am so excited for 2015! A few of the many things I am excited about is Insurgent, Pitch Perfect 2, Mockingjay Part 2, and a whole lot of more stuff! Happy New Year 2015!

Moving On To 2015

Moving On To 2015

2014, what a year it has been. 2014 was mixed of some of the craziest happenings of the year. New slang appears, the new clothes and shoes on people's feet that makes you want to go, "Wow, those are awesome!". There were the exciting and the devastating events that brought everyone down and jump for joy. People make angry protests in the streets while others eagerly wait for the holidays to approach. Everything has been a mix of different kinds of reactions coming from everyone, so here is my input. I was given questions to answers by my teacher so you can read some of my answers.

1.) What were the popular fashion must-have items for ladies/gentlemen/both this year? Some popular fashion clothes I have seen around this year were Jordans and KDs (most definitely for boys), rue 21 and Victoria's Secret stores were the talk of the girls. There has been some new Converses and Vans around, even though people consider them old. They're new to me since I don't own a lot. For boys and girls both, I'm thinking people want Hollister and American Eagle because I've seen a lot of those around (those brands I don't own and not sure if I want to). Jeggings, leggings that look like jeans, were pretty popular especially with teenage girls and some young women. They used it to get away from trouble in school. Pretty clever, right?

2.) What were the popular slang terms for 2014? Boy, have I heard some new slang coming in this year! Some were inappropriate for people to use and they still live on. Some have made it from 2013, but weren't as popular. In the texting universe, 'smh' for 'shaking my head' was pretty popular. It was usually when someone does something quite foolish, smh would come into place. And selfies! Hard not to forget those, right? Everyone has 1 or 2 selfies on their phone, whether they like to think about it or not. But the word selfie gets many people confused. It means a picture taken by yourself, not including many others in the picture. Shade is pretty popular now and let's just say, the right kind of shade can change how you see someone forever. The quietest person can pull out the darkest of shade that makes a person change the way they see that particular person. And there's one that everyone loves to use: bae. Bae means 'before anyone else' and it stands for that special person. Apparently people think that it's short for 'baby'. I can tell you that I've heard 'bae' be used every day. I cannot recall a day where the word 'bae' hasn't been used because it seems to come out of everyone's mouth.

3.) What were two exciting events that happened to you this year? When Boko Haram kidnapped 200 girls and killed many villagers in Nigeria was sad for me because it seems like no one is doing anything major to help. Many of the soldiers are running around, almost running the country and the President either not trying to stop it or not doing enough. The 2014 FIFA World Cup were some exciting events. While the FIFA World Cup passed but I still have fond memories from the summer. As for the FIFA World Cup, I have been waiting for the World Cup to come up after waiting 4 whole years. This was my 2nd time watching this. It was interesting to hear Shakira's 'Waka Waka (This is Africa)' song.

4.) What were the top five songs in your phone that you kept on repeat this year? I have listened to a lot of new music that is different from what I'm normally used to, which is Christian contemporary. I went to YouTube (in total curiosity) and started typing up some random songs I heard people talking about in school. A song that came out recently 'Problem' by Ariana Grande. I didn't really care about the artist or the video at the time, I just liked the beat. 'We Are' is an old song by Ana Johnsson. It was made in 2002 and was used in the movie Spiderman 2. I liked 'Dark Horse' by Katy Perry. The beginning beat to the song attracted me to listen to the rest. After the first time I listened to it, it got stuck in my head forever. I also found 'Feel Good Inc.' and 'Awake and Alive' by Gorillaz and Skillet. I didn't know the band Skillet was a Christian rock band. Let's just say I found out a lot of interesting facts when it came to music.

5.) Find the word that you would want to best describe 2015. The word I would want to have 2015 would probably be "Unique" because I don't want the years to go by and have it be the same old, same old. I'm looking to hear positive things to better my mood. This year started off okay until summer hit and it got pretty tragic. It even got to a point in time where I just stopped watching the news because almost everything there was bad. I can't completely hope for 100% the best of the world, but I can try to get there.

6.) What are two things you would like to change about yourself in 2015? I'm not really sure what I would change. I have a lot of self-confidence. I like everything about myself. Everything ranging from my life outside school to my friends inside are pretty much the same as it always has. I would feel better if in my Honors Biology class, I would get a better grade. Right now, my grade is pretty decent, but I want to get a better grade. In 2015, I also want to get better at waking up early for school. It seems that the older I get, the harder it is to wake up early for school. I'll have to put this on my New Years' Resolution......

7.) Find a current event that spoke to you/made you think/ brought something out of you in some way. Explain it and what it made you think about. I think the Ebola outbreak spoke to me the most since it was in West Africa and it was close to Ghana. Even though Ghana was safe, the other countries got hit pretty hard and a lot of people died, everyone from infants to elders. Overall, 2014 was a pretty different and unique year for me, since there were so much of the bad news mixed in with the good events. If I was to rate this, I would rate give 2014 a 7.1, maybe a 7.2 to be a little generous.

2014 for Elisa

What was the Popular-fashion must have items for ladies/gentlemen this year?
  • This year was a year that everyone could step out and try to be themselves. A year full of diversity, people chose to come out the worlds perception of what fashion is suppose to look like. We decide to wear our own styles and representations of who they were. Teens across the United States use new fashion items, such as;  joggers, floral shirts, flowered headbands, cardigans and other over coats of the of the same style. Sneakers, boots, Nike, Adidas, Jordan’s, and other name brand clothing. Anything has been considered fashionable in the eyes of yourself.
What were the popular slang terms for 2014?
  • A lot of slang language has corrupted the people of this generation’s vocabulary. It can be confusing a misunderstood to adults words such as; “OD, yo, B, legit, slay or slayed, chill, sike, YEET, nah, keep it a bean, say word? But that’s none of my business, but you’re ugly! And many more that flows out of this generation’s vocabulary like water running through a  through a river. However, if your mature, you will know better than to use them in an interview.

What were two exciting events that happened to you this year?
  • My life isn't as exciting as some may think but that doesn't mean I don't have my share of so called exciting moments. One exciting event that happened to me this year was moving into a bran new house in less than a month. With my very own room. A second was my very first swim meet at a college. The water was a little deep if you ask me. .
What are two things you would like to change about yourself in 2015?
  • This upcoming New Year, I wish to change a few things about myself. One important thing I would like to change is my attitude. I tend to get irritated easily towards a lot of big and small things. Id like to try and fix that so I don't get in that mood so much. I would also like to change how shy I am around new people. I want to work on being more open!
Find a current event that really brought something out in you/made you think/spoke to you in some way?
  • No too long ago I saw a video on the news showing footage of present day KU KLUX KLAN members. Showing people for the first time in a long time, what they do, what they believe in, and what they stand for. They were highly uneducated, their opinions and beliefs were just simply that. They wee not backed up by anything other than "that's just the way it should be" After all this time, their still people out there unknowing of right & wrong. Or what the bible REALLY says.
Create a word for yourself that I going to be your 2015 word.
  • This year had taught me a lot, I've matured way past the 16 year old maturity level. I've realized what is really important. I've learned to love who I am. I've found love of the deepest kind. I've came a long way form the places I used to be. My word for this year, I feel, should be "different" (in a good way)

OMG 2014 IS ALMOST OVER!!!

 Most popular fashions of 2014
The most popular fashions of 2014 were mainly Jordans and KD's. I've seen both guys and girls were them all around our school and they managed to pull them off better than I could ever do. Theses were really cute depending on what color you get, like the main type of KD's that I thought were hot the green ones and the black and blue ones. When I saw people wear those I really wanted to go out to buy a pair.

Most popular slang terms of 2014
The most popular slang terms of 2014 were bae and keep it 100. Bae is an acronym which stands for Before Anyone Else and it is used to point out someone you are dating or someone you have a crush on. Almost everyone at school kept throwing this word around whenever they saw an attractive girl or guy walking down the hall. Keep it 100 means that you tell it how it is and you don't sugar coat anything you say. This phrase kind of made some people mad because what some people said made others mad and both friendships and relationships were broken or on the verge to be broken.

Top five songs that I had on repeat during 2014
The five songs I had on repeat during 2014 were "Pretend" by Tinashé, "2 On" by Tinashé, "Jealous" by Beyoncé, "Confetti" by Tori Kelly, and "L.A.Love(la la)" by Fergie. I kept these five songs on replay because they help me avoid drama and help me up when I felt low. Whenever I would play one of them on the bus people would look at me funny because I was either dancing in my seat or lip syncing the song real hard. I've became exposed to some of these songs from my segment on the school newspaper. So that is one thing I can say is the best part about 2014 is the exposure to new types of music that I would've never known.

Current Event of 2014
The ebola outbreak was very frightening to some of the students. There was an explosion on social media with funny memes about ebola. I was afraid personally because scientist have not found a cure for the virus and it's only a 50/50 shot of survival if you get it. Everyone at school started making jokes about it and you know the saying what goes around comes around. Other kids kept saying that if you keep talking about ebola you are going to catch it from someone outside of school. Basically ebola scared the living crap out of me.

One Word to describe me
One word to describe me would have to be out-going. I think that because everyone says I do the most and I agree. In elementary school I was the most serious kid on the block. I cared more about my school work than my social life. But as soon as I started middle school that all changed and I became the fun loving De'Aundré everyone knows and love. Except sometimes I believe that I over do it sometimes but I don't care. I hope everyone has a merry Christmas and a happy new year.

WHERE DID THE YEAR GO????????

Walking through the halls of Eastern, I see a youthful generation full of teenagers on social media texting and new trends and of course fashionable styles. What about you what do you see did you change a lot? I know I did.

POPULAR FASHION
In 2014, there were tons of new fashionable styles that were almost too hard to keep up with. The first were KD's these were a brand of shoes that almost every teenager wanted to have they were a stylish pair of shoes with a very colorful look. The next were the sweat pants with elastic at the bottom these came in different colors and sizes and especially the adidas brand. Another new trend was the new joggers everyone got really attached to the new look and it soon became quite popular.  A cool trend was also maxi dresses, and it seems every year these beautiful dresses steal girls' hearts .

POPULAR SLANG TERMS
As always teenagers are very attached to there cell phones and to make things easier kids use things like emojis and slang words or text talk. Some slang words of 2014 include lol (laugh out loud)  smh(Shaking my head)  Bae which means (before anyone else). Fleek which is a term meaning on point. Wyd short for what you doing and Wbu meaning what about you. Flex meaning flirting on the down low and juice meaning the same thing. Shade which means a sneaky remark someone says to try and play you. Adults are not as aware of these terms as much as teenagers. Although it can make things easier sometimes i think that it's really better to talk to people face to face.

TOP FIVE SONGS
Jealous my Nick Jonas, "I still get Jealoussss"This song is by nick Jonas he hasn't been as popular since the Jonas brothers but this song has made him popular again.
Only By Nikki Minaj , This upbeat song is sure to make you bob your head and nod in agreement this songs new music video was just recently released.
Amnesia by 5sos , "Wish i could wake up with amnesia" This song by 5sos is one of my favorites it puts a lot of emotions through your mind and is sure to make you think about a break up you've had.
No type by Rae sermurrd , This song says, "I aint got not no type " a lot but its very catchy and will make you want to dance it made me laugh when i first heard it but it grew on me.
Tuesday by ILOVEMAKONNEN this song says "Club going up on a Tuesdayyyy got your girl in the club..."  every Tuesday your almost guaranteed to hear someone singing this song.

EXCITING EVENTS
I don't know about anyone else but a exciting event for me was the start of my sophomore year. It was really special and I feel like I will make the most of it. Another exciting event this past year I had was when I had my college tour experience where I got to tour many colleges and also missed a week of school. This year was pretty much drama free which made me really happy I plan on keeping it that way.

TWO THINGS YOU WOULD LIKE TO CHANGE ABOUT YOURSELF
One thing I would like to change about myself is my attitude , because it is not always nice and I'm not always the most friendliest person to be around but I'm trying to change that. The second thing I would change about myself is the friends I keep a lot of people I thought were my friends really weren't and my circle continues to get smaller and smaller. My new year's resolution is to change these two things and a lot of other things. I want to change these things so I can be a better person.

CURRENT EVENT
Ferguson, Missouri  was a recent event that really struck home for me. As you probably know it was a very racist emotional matter for a lot of people and a lot of people felt like Michael Brown didn't have any justice. It spoke to me because me being a African American female I know the struggles of being a minority. I think that what happened was very violent and uncalled for. The protests for Michael Brown became very violent. As I go to this new year I think about the family of Michael Brown not being able to see this next Christmas or new year's. R.I.P all that passed in the year of 2014.

MY WORD OF 2015
"Blessed" because of how blessed I am . After all that I've been through this past year I'm very grateful for my family and all we have. I picked Blessed because I want to continue to be blessed and highly favored and thankful for all I've been given. I know that some people aren't as blessed and I don't  take that lightly and will continue not to think im just lucky because it is much more than that.  I think that everything happens for a reason including all of the bad experiences. So because of all these reasons I choose the word "Blessed" for 2014-2015.

The Buzz of 2014

THE BUZZ!

  1. What were the popular fashion must-have items for ladies or gentlemen or both this year?

  • Now a days at school, everybody is judged by what they were and how they look. The new popular fashion for 2014 is jeggings, which are tight fitting stretch pants for women, styled to resemble a pair of denim jeans. Leggings which are tight fitting stretch pants, typically worn by women or girls. Joggers which is something like hammer pants, some are fit, and some are loose. They are made for men & women. Every time they come on I sing every word and just go crazy.

  1. What were two exciting events that happened to you this year?

  • The first exciting event is when my sister had her second child on May-1-2014. She and I share a month. She is so precious; she means the world to me. We have a close bond. The second special event is when I went to the beach with my best friend; we got a lot closer and had an amazing time together.

  1. What were two things you would like to change about yourself in 2015?

  • The 1st thing I want to change is my skin color; I want a darker skin tone. I think I’m pale and want to have a tan. The 2nd think ill change about myself is my face, there’s time where I like my face and a lot of times I hate my face. The only thing I like on my face is my eyes.

  1. Find a current event that really brought something out in you/made you think/spoke to you in a way.

  • A current event that brought something out in me was the whole situation with gay marriage. Everybody had their opinions but when they passed it I got excited. I may not get married to a girl but at least it is now legalized. Now you can marry someone you love, even if you’re the same gender. It not about the race or gender it’s about love.  I had people express their feelings about why they didn’t like it. It's there opinion but I feel that God loves us no matter what.

  1. Create a word for yourself that is going to be your 2015 word.

  • One word is crazy, because I’m very outgoing and wild. I love to dance, I’m just out there with things.

Popular Trends of 2014

Popular Trends of 2014
 by Jesus Ruiz

The popular trends for both female and males of 2014 were Jordan's joggers. Both men and females enjoyed Levis, Jordan's and, joggers. Another popular trend for specifically women is long dresses with short in the front.

Some of the popular slang terms of 2014. One of the most popular terms is fleek which means cool or awesome. Another key one is bae which means before anyone else.

One of the songs I kept on repeat is the song "All Me" by Drake. Another good song is "Ima Boss" by Meek Mill. I listen to it when I'm getting ready to wrestle. The song "Rap God" by Eminem is a good song as well. I listen to it when I go run. "Rap God" is one of the longest songs of 2014. Those are just three songs that are outstanding but there is plenty more.

One exciting thing that happened to me during 2014 is I went to Mexico. While in Mexico I got to see my family once again. I also got to go to Florida to compete in wrestling. I went and got to meet and experience other states wrestlers.

One thing I would want to change about me in 2015 is my weight for wrestling. I would want to go down to 160 instead of being 170. Another thing I would change is my grades I would want them to be higher then they were in 2014  I want to have them  high so colleges can see how good they are.

The current event that bought something out in me was the one about  the solar powered trash remover. It made me feel really good inside. Maybe one day we can invent a machine that cleans the entire world. It spoke to me because it showed how smart people can be. It made me want to  get involved in projects to help the earth.

My word for 2015 is boss. I picked this word cause I like to think of myself as a boss in wrestling. Also cause I'm a take control kind of person. I like the word cause it symbolizes something greater then someone who takes control. I will demonstrate this word by being good in wrestling.

Tre's Year in Review!

1 .Fashion is different everywhere, but fashion also just recycles itself. Talking to older people such as my parents- you will find out lots of things that have recycled themselves. Ladies and Gents of my generation love to wear things like Adidas Jogger’s, Air Jordan’s, designer jeans and belts such as Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and Ferragamo. Most people try to be as fly as the rappers and ball players do. I personally like Jordan’s, Nike, Neff, Polo, and Billionaire Boys Club Clothing.

2. A lot of popular slang terms for 2014 came from popular Vine’s being watched and spread all over the face of the internet and things songs that different rappers put out. My favorite slang terms have to be “21” from a Vine where a little boy was being picked on. My other favorite is the term “throwing shade”; I like this one because a lot of people say I throw shade.  (http://www.playbuzz.com/rebeccam16/how-many-popular-2014-slang-words-do-you-actually-know

3. First is the whole J. Cole (2014 Forest Hills Drive.) album which is most recent. I listen to that album everyday because you can relate to all of his lyrics. Secondly is the song by Shy Glizzy called “Can’t go like that” I like this song because it has a very nice beat to it and Shy Glizzy is one of my favorite rappers. Third on that list is probably “You and I by John Legend”. I heard this song one time and fell in k=love with it. I knew it was going to be my type of song when I first heard it. The fourth song on the list is another song by John Legend called “All of me”. I love this song because- even as a guy it still made me feel kind of soft on the inside. Any song that can pull at my heart is a good one. I also like to play that song for my girlfriend. The last son that has been on my playlist lately is a song by Wale called “The trip down town” I like this song because wale is one of my favorite rappers but he doesn’t rap in this song its more like spoken word but at the same time he is throwing in a little flow which always catches my ear because its different from the rest of his music.

4. An exciting event that happened to me this year was; first when I won a national championship in Gainesville, FL. That was a very important time in my life because I have never won a national championship in my life. Also another exciting time in the year was when I got a college offer from a D3 school. I just knew the sky was the limit from there.

5. Two things I would like to change about myself in 2015 is my timing or procrastinating skills and my decision making, because next year in college it’s only going to get harder. All of the things I use to get away with in high school won’t go down in college. There won’t be any one with me to push me when I am slacking off. Also I want to add the fact that the professors don’t care about you problems, they are there to teach and that’s it.

6. Two current events that really caught my attention are the Michael Brown case and the Eric Garner case. The Michael Brown case ended up with the 18 year old Michael Brown being shot by a police officer, and the police officer wasn’t charged. The Eric Garner case had to do with a group of police officers arresting the 43 year old, but while trying to do that one of the officers used to much force and killed Garner by choking him to death; also in that case the police officer was not punished. Both of those really caught my eye because they have been all over the news and I hear people talk about it daily.  They really got my attention because I feel as if the police shouldn’t have used so much force in both situations. All lives are important in this world.

Read more about this situation in the article below.

http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2014/12/michael-brown-eric-garner-other-america-john-lewis/383750/

7. The word I am going to chose for myself in 2015 is going to be perseverance and consistency. I have to conduct both of these traits in my next few years of life because the real world is coming at me fast and it’ll be here before I know it.  When you have responsibilities, you have no time for games. I plan to live out these traits by doing my best in perusing my education to the best of my abilities without anyone having to give me a pat on the back and staying consistent with everything I do.

Creativity of 2014

Fashion Trends...
So, this years fashion trends,  What were the do's and the dont's...Well something everyone was rocking this year no matter what season was...Timberland waterproof boots.. something about the tan or brown style and ridged bottom attracts the eye. The runner up seem to be Jordan's, you cant leave the house without Jordan's, the nice compilation of the designs, make it so popular. and lets talk about Sperry's, this flat footed furry comfortable shoe, had your mother, your sisters and even your brothers, wearing it. Onto some clothes, from hi-lows skirts and Nike shirts from jean jackets to sweatpants, these are some of the things that people couldn't stop wearing. See this year was all about creativity, you could have worn anything in the year 2014.. this year we all explored, and did our own thing, that's what 2014 fashion was about.

Slang Terms...
Slang, now we all go on social media these days and see hilarious videos. like vine, we all watch vine and take some type of word from it and turn it into a slang or a popular saying. for example: "Is you mad or nah?, even better "yeet" and "fleek", "Bae" and the list goes on.
My Top 5 Favorite Songs Of 2014...
My favorite songs this year of 2014 had to be: "kiss me" by Sebastian Mikeal, "Only" by Nicki Minaji, "About the money" T.I ft young thug, "Blue" by beyonce, "Bobby" by Bobby Shmurda, "Beg for it" by Iggy Azalea.
A New Start...
Some things id like to start brand new on in 2015 is...not much, but honestly I would like to work on how to not let my opinions of people get in the way of possible new  relationships. also to learn to sometimes open my mouth but then sometimes keep it closed and by doing this, this is how ill get by in high school. and all its drama that comes along with it.
Current Event...
So my favorite current event from 2014 would probably have to be, CNN student news of November 14. and the news was that, the reason why snow had come early this year is because the bomb cyclone. and where cold weather usually stays which is in the polar vertex, aka the north pole, it traveled do to the bomb cyclone, which basically mixes warm tropical air with the polar vertex, changing the cold airs flow, traveling to the U.S. basically having winter come early. this stood out to me because during the month of November it was freezing cold even with a coat on and I was wondering because it was December, and so it really caught my attention.
Describing Me In 2015...
The word that will describe me in 2015 will be Revolved. I say revolved because I will be brand new, a new look on life, a brand new start to make things right, turn my grades around and way more. the reason why is because I change every year but 2013 transitioning into 2014 was a rough year and I learned things about myself that maybe I should work on, and did I work on them in 2014?somewhat, which is why 2015 will be my brand new start to continue what wasn't finished in 2014, so for now I'm kissing goodbye to 2014 and welcoming 2015...

Remembering 2014

This year is slowly coming to an end and everyone is looking forward to 2015 and the new surprises it might bring; many are ready to leave this year behind and start anew with the New Year we’re being provided with. Yet there were many things that defined 2014 like fears, diseases, war rumors, deaths, marriages, new laws, and so much more. I can definitely say that 2014 has had its up's and down's, but there have been many things that have made this year one to remember. Here are a few things:

What were the biggest fashion trends?
One thing we can’t get passed by is how fashion has had a big impact in the world this year. Let’s take a quick glance at a few of the things we saw in the fashion world. For the most part we saw lace shine throughout the whole year. You could go to any store and find at least a dozen shirts, dresses, leggings, with lace, but even though lace was a big fashion trend this year, we can't leave out something that redefined skirts and dresses. Hi-low dresses made a huge difference in the world of fashion, you couldn't go to any store without seeing at least one dress or skirt that contained this kind of design. I can't also leave out that headbands, scarfs, Sperry's, Nike's, and cardigans were a big hit as well.
What were the biggest slang terms?
For the most part we saw new slang terms become famous in between the crowd, although theses words are what worry teachers that students are losing their grammatical skills. A few of these terms would consist of bae, or nah, bruh, and fleek, just to name a few. But these words for the most part will fade away as the year continues to move forward just like a few other words that have completely disappeared.

What were the top five songs you listened to?
The top five songs I listened to were many, that I wouldn't be able to just pick one. Yet if I had to pick a few they would be oceans by Hillsong United, I consider this song to be very inspirational. Other songs that were in the top five on my phone would be How Can it Be by Lauren Daigle, By Your Side by Tenth Avenue North, Come As You Are by David Crowder, and No Turning Back by Brandon Heath. These songs were definitely one of the greatest songs I listened to this year. I consider these to be amazing songs not only because they are uplifting, but also for the reason that I could keep singing them for hours and hours.

What were two exciting events that happened to you this year?
This year was full of many great things, which would make it hard for me to pick. Yet if I had to pick two, they would have to be getting accepted into my #1 college choice and becoming a senior. These two events have definitely been the highlight of my year and will make this passing year one to remember. Getting the chance to make it this far has been amazing, not everyone gets the chance to, I'm ready to keep moving forward, and can't wait to see what else is in store for my life.

What are two things that you want to change about yourself in 2015?
Everyone usually has new years goals that they want to accomplish, most of the time they are reached, but other times we leave it to the year after that. Yet there are a few things I would actually like to get done this year. One thing I would like to change about myself in 2015 would be the chance of being less stubborn and being a little more open with the ones around me. This would definitely be a big accomplishment for me, in my opinion.
What current event brought something out in you/made you think/spoke to you in some way?
A current event that really brought something out in me would be the story of the disappearance of the 43 students in Mexico. A few months ago these students disappeared and were later on found to be dead; it is supposedly said that the may or was involved in the mass murders. What I found to be very unbelievable is that even when the chances were that they were dead the mothers and fathers of these students never lost hope in finding them. This made me think of how we sometimes take for granite the smallest of things.
What is your 2015 personal word?
My 2015 personal word for this upcoming year is "Hope". I chose this word because it is something I constantly consider when something doesn't go the way it's expected to. Hope is something that remains in the midst of the worst of moments, something that brings comfort. Life isn't always the easiest, but you can always make the best of it with hope. I plan to demonstrate this word in 2015 by overcoming adversity. Problems strike our lives once in a while, but with hope we can always make things better.

A Different Type of Christmas

A Different Type of Christmas

Christmas, a favorite holiday celebrated worldwide. You can celebrate for religious reasons, the presents given and/or taken December 25th. You don't have to celebrate at all; you can just wish someone a Merry Christmas. In parts of Africa, Christmas is different. The holiday is celebrated for religious reasons mostly. Many go to church and stay long into the night. Others invite relatives over to sit and eat food together. Some have late night parties. As you read my EGHS Christmas Special article, there are some things you need to know about how the holidays are celebrated in the continent. Just to let you know, Kwanzaa is not an African festivals; it’s actually for African Americans. Many African-Americans in America celebrate Kwanzaa from December 26th to January 1st. It is thought to be celebrated by Africans because Kwanzaa focuses on the African unity, heritage and culture and Panafricanism, the idea that peoples of African descent have common interests and should be unified.

In Liberia, there is no Santa Claus but an Old Man Bayka. He's a devil man who goes around begging others for presents on Christmas Day. You'll usually hear "My Christmas on you", which means please give me something nice for Christmas. In Ethiopia and others who use the Julian calendar celebrate Christmas on January 7th. In Ghana, the festivities start the last week of November, which is called Advent. When December comes around, the cocoa bean harvest and the real fun starts. In the northern part of Africa their countries are mostly Muslim, so they don't celebrate Christmas too much. If they do, it's usually private but can be public too. In places like Sierra Leone and Gambia, towns and villages celebrate with masquerade parties.

I've gotten 3 interviews from 3 different people in my school/community and asked them on their input on some of my opinion-based questions. Read them and if you can, put your own answers to the questions in the comment box below.

Charlotte

1) What don't you like about the holidays?

Charlotte: Spending too much money on gifts.

Beatrice: Nothing.

Temitope: Having family over and all the drama and talk they bring.

2) Do you know what Kwanzaa is? Would you celebrate if you found out what the holidays was?

Charlotte: No because all I need is Christmas to worry about.

Beatrice: No, I mean it doesn't matter much to me.

Beatrice
Temitope: I know what Kwanzaa if, but I don't care about it except for the food. I could try for the presents though.

3) What was your 1st Christmas like in America/travelling abroad?

Temitope
Charlotte: Bored but a little happy because it was my 1st Christmas in America. I didn't do much but it was still interesting.

Beatrice: It was fun. I got a lot of presents and I got to see a lot of my family.

Temitope: When I went to Nigeria, it wasn't exactly 'Christmassy' like in America. It was hot, there were no actual Christmas trees, people didn't really have a lot of spirit as in the U.S. There were still into it. Maybe as a replacement for the trees, you could decorate coconut trees or something.

In some surveys I've gathered, I've gotten interesting information from people of a bunch of different countries. Many have sermons in church focused on the Nativity Scene and the Bible. Don't try explaining Santa Claus to the Africans, they won't know who he is because Father Christmas isn't an important figure. Everyone from the oldest of grandmothers to the youngest newborn boys are invited to each others' house for visits. People love to eat fufu, εtɔ, curry, soup, ham, goat, dry rice, plantains, chicken, fish and many more delicious foods. Sometimes American foods are mixed in. Many countries don't celebrate Boxing Day, which is the day after Christmas dayIf so, it's mostly for partying and more presents given and taken. The season is loved by the Africans because of the break from school, the family comes over, the presents, even the good Christmas feeling you get sometimes.

There are also many ways to say 'Merry Christmas'/wish someone happy holidays in the many of the tribal African languages alive on the continent. In Rwonda's Zulu language, it's 'Noheli nzinza'. In most of Northern Africa, 'Milad Mubarak' is the way to go. Francophone countries (countries who speak mostly French), 'Joyeux Noël' is spoken. To wish someone happy holidays in Ghana's Twi, you say 'Afe nyhia pa' and you respond with 'Afe nkɔ mmεto yεn daa'. In Nigerian Yoruba, just say 'Ikini ọdun keresimesi' and the Nigerians will nod your way. South Africa's Afrikaans will have 'Geseënde Kersfees'. Most of the time, English is preferred and said as just a regular 'Happy/Merry Christmas'. If you want to know how to pronounce these words, look online or ask any of your friends that are able to speak the given languages.

It's Cold Outside... So Watch a Movie!

It’s that time of year again. The time for snow days, hot cocoa, and best of all, curling up under a blanket and watching holiday movies. Movies like The Santa Claus, The Grinch, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Frosty the Snowman are all great examples of holiday movies that gets you excited upcoming season.

To get some insight about holiday movies I surveyed ten people about them. The questions went as followed:

“Do you plan on seeing a movie over holiday break?”
Seven people said that they plan on seeing a movie, and three said no.

“What movie are you planning to see or what they would like to see?”
Three people said Mockingjay, two said Into the Woods one plans to watch Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, one said The Penguins of Madagascar, one plans to continue their goal on watching all the movies on Netflix, and two were inconclusive.

“Do you enjoy holiday movies?”
All agreed with a “yes!”

“Do you prefer cartoon or live-action holiday movies?”
Three said cartoon, two said live-action, and five said both.

“Do you and your family enjoy watching holiday movies together?”
Six said yes, three said it depends on the movie, and one said no.

“Do you prefer classic or new holiday movies?”
Eight said classic, one said both, and one said it depends.

“Do you watch holiday movies year-round?”
Eight said yes, one said no, and one said it depends on how much it is about the holidays.

“What is your favorite type of movie to mix with holiday movies?"
Some people just couldn’t choose one answer, seven said Disney, four said the Classics, three said Fairytale, two said comedy, and one said action.

“Do you think holiday movies will be as popular in the future?”
Seven said yes, two said no, and one said it depends on the quality of the movies.

I also interviewed three people about holiday movies...

First I interviewed Elizabeth Surrette. The first thing I asked her was what does she like about holiday movies, her response: "I like the characters, like Frosty and Rudolph. They really make the holidays enjoyable." Next I asked her what her favorite holiday movie was, her response: "The Polar Express because it was my favorite growing up, and I have a lot of good memories from watching it!" Lastly I asked her if holiday movies put her in the spirit of the holidays, her response: "Yeah, because it makes me feel jolly, like you're supposed to around the holidays". Elizabeth clearly loves the holidays and can't wait until they officially come.

Next I interviewed Emily Simmons. First I asked her what she liked about holiday movies, she answered: "They get you in the spirit for the upcoming holidays and they are entertaining." After that I asked her what her favorite holiday movie was, she answered: "A Charlie Brown Christmas because it is funny and I love the characters." Finally I asked her if holiday movies put her in the spirit of the holidays, she answered: "Yup, they are exciting and just get you ready for the holidays." Emily is ready to celebrate the holidays with Snoopy and Woodstock!

Last I interviewed Sean Nesbit. First I asked him what it was about holiday movies that he liked, he answered: "They're traditional to watch and they are fun." After that asked him what his favorite holiday movie was, he answered:"The Grinch because Jim Carrey is awesome!" Finally I asked him if holiday movies put him in the spirit of the holidays, he answered: "No because they are just one of many things I do during the holidays to get me spirited." Sean is excited about the holidays and especially excited to watch Jim Carrey in The Grinch.

With the holidays coming in fast recommend you find some movies to watch. I recommend The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Grinch, Christmas With the Cranks, and last but not least Unaccompanied Minors. All of these are some of my personal holiday movies, and I hope you enjoy them too! Happy Holidays!
