Remembering 2014

This year is slowly coming to an end and everyone is looking forward to 2015 and the new surprises it might bring; many are ready to leave this year behind and start anew with the New Year we’re being provided with. Yet there were many things that defined 2014 like fears, diseases, war rumors, deaths, marriages, new laws, and so much more. I can definitely say that 2014 has had its up's and down's, but there have been many things that have made this year one to remember. Here are a few things:

What were the biggest fashion trends?
One thing we can’t get passed by is how fashion has had a big impact in the world this year. Let’s take a quick glance at a few of the things we saw in the fashion world. For the most part we saw lace shine throughout the whole year. You could go to any store and find at least a dozen shirts, dresses, leggings, with lace, but even though lace was a big fashion trend this year, we can't leave out something that redefined skirts and dresses. Hi-low dresses made a huge difference in the world of fashion, you couldn't go to any store without seeing at least one dress or skirt that contained this kind of design. I can't also leave out that headbands, scarfs, Sperry's, Nike's, and cardigans were a big hit as well.
What were the biggest slang terms?
For the most part we saw new slang terms become famous in between the crowd, although theses words are what worry teachers that students are losing their grammatical skills. A few of these terms would consist of bae, or nah, bruh, and fleek, just to name a few. But these words for the most part will fade away as the year continues to move forward just like a few other words that have completely disappeared.

What were the top five songs you listened to?
The top five songs I listened to were many, that I wouldn't be able to just pick one. Yet if I had to pick a few they would be oceans by Hillsong United, I consider this song to be very inspirational. Other songs that were in the top five on my phone would be How Can it Be by Lauren Daigle, By Your Side by Tenth Avenue North, Come As You Are by David Crowder, and No Turning Back by Brandon Heath. These songs were definitely one of the greatest songs I listened to this year. I consider these to be amazing songs not only because they are uplifting, but also for the reason that I could keep singing them for hours and hours.

What were two exciting events that happened to you this year?
This year was full of many great things, which would make it hard for me to pick. Yet if I had to pick two, they would have to be getting accepted into my #1 college choice and becoming a senior. These two events have definitely been the highlight of my year and will make this passing year one to remember. Getting the chance to make it this far has been amazing, not everyone gets the chance to, I'm ready to keep moving forward, and can't wait to see what else is in store for my life.

What are two things that you want to change about yourself in 2015?
Everyone usually has new years goals that they want to accomplish, most of the time they are reached, but other times we leave it to the year after that. Yet there are a few things I would actually like to get done this year. One thing I would like to change about myself in 2015 would be the chance of being less stubborn and being a little more open with the ones around me. This would definitely be a big accomplishment for me, in my opinion.
What current event brought something out in you/made you think/spoke to you in some way?
A current event that really brought something out in me would be the story of the disappearance of the 43 students in Mexico. A few months ago these students disappeared and were later on found to be dead; it is supposedly said that the may or was involved in the mass murders. What I found to be very unbelievable is that even when the chances were that they were dead the mothers and fathers of these students never lost hope in finding them. This made me think of how we sometimes take for granite the smallest of things.
What is your 2015 personal word?
My 2015 personal word for this upcoming year is "Hope". I chose this word because it is something I constantly consider when something doesn't go the way it's expected to. Hope is something that remains in the midst of the worst of moments, something that brings comfort. Life isn't always the easiest, but you can always make the best of it with hope. I plan to demonstrate this word in 2015 by overcoming adversity. Problems strike our lives once in a while, but with hope we can always make things better.
