Moving On To 2015
2014, what a year it has been. 2014 was mixed of some of the craziest happenings of the year. New slang appears, the new clothes and shoes on people's feet that makes you want to go, "Wow, those are awesome!". There were the exciting and the devastating events that brought everyone down and jump for joy. People make angry protests in the streets while others eagerly wait for the holidays to approach. Everything has been a mix of different kinds of reactions coming from everyone, so here is my input. I was given questions to answers by my teacher so you can read some of my answers.1.) What were the popular fashion must-have items for ladies/gentlemen/both this year? Some popular fashion clothes I have seen around this year were Jordans and KDs (most definitely for boys), rue 21 and Victoria's Secret stores were the talk of the girls. There has been some new Converses and Vans around, even though people consider them old. They're new to me since I don't own a lot. For boys and girls both, I'm thinking people want Hollister and American Eagle because I've seen a lot of those around (those brands I don't own and not sure if I want to). Jeggings, leggings that look like jeans, were pretty popular especially with teenage girls and some young women. They used it to get away from trouble in school. Pretty clever, right?
2.) What were the popular slang terms for 2014? Boy, have I heard some new slang coming in this year! Some were inappropriate for people to use and they still live on. Some have made it from 2013, but weren't as popular. In the texting universe, 'smh' for 'shaking my head' was pretty popular. It was usually when someone does something quite foolish, smh would come into place. And selfies! Hard not to forget those, right? Everyone has 1 or 2 selfies on their phone, whether they like to think about it or not. But the word selfie gets many people confused. It means a picture taken by yourself, not including many others in the picture. Shade is pretty popular now and let's just say, the right kind of shade can change how you see someone forever. The quietest person can pull out the darkest of shade that makes a person change the way they see that particular person. And there's one that everyone loves to use: bae. Bae means 'before anyone else' and it stands for that special person. Apparently people think that it's short for 'baby'. I can tell you that I've heard 'bae' be used every day. I cannot recall a day where the word 'bae' hasn't been used because it seems to come out of everyone's mouth.
3.) What were two exciting events that happened to you this year? When Boko Haram kidnapped 200 girls and killed many villagers in Nigeria was sad for me because it seems like no one is doing anything major to help. Many of the soldiers are running around, almost running the country and the President either not trying to stop it or not doing enough. The 2014 FIFA World Cup were some exciting events. While the FIFA World Cup passed but I still have fond memories from the summer. As for the FIFA World Cup, I have been waiting for the World Cup to come up after waiting 4 whole years. This was my 2nd time watching this. It was interesting to hear Shakira's 'Waka Waka (This is Africa)' song.
4.) What were the top five songs in your phone that you kept on repeat this year? I have listened to a lot of new music that is different from what I'm normally used to, which is Christian contemporary. I went to YouTube (in total curiosity) and started typing up some random songs I heard people talking about in school. A song that came out recently 'Problem' by Ariana Grande. I didn't really care about the artist or the video at the time, I just liked the beat. 'We Are' is an old song by Ana Johnsson. It was made in 2002 and was used in the movie Spiderman 2. I liked 'Dark Horse' by Katy Perry. The beginning beat to the song attracted me to listen to the rest. After the first time I listened to it, it got stuck in my head forever. I also found 'Feel Good Inc.' and 'Awake and Alive' by Gorillaz and Skillet. I didn't know the band Skillet was a Christian rock band. Let's just say I found out a lot of interesting facts when it came to music.
5.) Find the word that you would want to best describe 2015. The word I would want to have 2015 would probably be "Unique" because I don't want the years to go by and have it be the same old, same old. I'm looking to hear positive things to better my mood. This year started off okay until summer hit and it got pretty tragic. It even got to a point in time where I just stopped watching the news because almost everything there was bad. I can't completely hope for 100% the best of the world, but I can try to get there.
6.) What are two things you would like to change about yourself in 2015? I'm not really sure what I would change. I have a lot of self-confidence. I like everything about myself. Everything ranging from my life outside school to my friends inside are pretty much the same as it always has. I would feel better if in my Honors Biology class, I would get a better grade. Right now, my grade is pretty decent, but I want to get a better grade. In 2015, I also want to get better at waking up early for school. It seems that the older I get, the harder it is to wake up early for school. I'll have to put this on my New Years' Resolution......
7.) Find a current event that spoke to you/made you think/ brought something out of you in some way. Explain it and what it made you think about. I think the Ebola outbreak spoke to me the most since it was in West Africa and it was close to Ghana. Even though Ghana was safe, the other countries got hit pretty hard and a lot of people died, everyone from infants to elders. Overall, 2014 was a pretty different and unique year for me, since there were so much of the bad news mixed in with the good events. If I was to rate this, I would rate give 2014 a 7.1, maybe a 7.2 to be a little generous.
