During the annual 'Pardoning of a turkey', in which a turkey is allowed to live the rest of its life without being eaten, Obama's daughters were criticized online by Elizabeth Lauten, communications Director for Tennessee Republican Steve Fincher. Elizabeth Lauten criticized the girls on Twitter stating the following:
"Dear Sasha and Malia, I get you're both in those awful teen years,
but your a part of the First Family, try showing a little class. At least
respect the part that you play. Then again, your father and mother don't
respect their positions very much, or the nation for that matter, so I'm
guessing you're coming up a little short in the 'good role model' department.
Nevertheless, stretch yourself, rise to the occasion, act like being in the
White House matters to you. Dress like you deserve respect, not a spot at a bar.
And certainly don't make faces during televised, public events."
After she tweeted this post, she was immediately criticized by people, which led her to apologize shortly after.
"After many hours of praying, talking to my parents, and reading my
Please know, those judgmental feelings truly have no place in my heart."
In Addition, she has decided to resign after the occurrence. She has told NBC News that her resignation was "In the works". It has not been confirmed by Finchers office whether or not Elizabeth Lauten's plans will take place. Not much has been commented about what happened for the reason that it is a very sensitive topic. Both of these girls have been in the spotlight ever since their father became president, from that moment forward the media has made sure to cover every part of their lives. Growing up with the attention of the whole world can sometimes be intimidating, but these girls are just trying to make the best of it, like every other teenager in the world.
