The Fall of the Year
The Fall of the Year
During the 4x2 of the
Wildcats first track home meet this year the “Fall of the Year” happened. First
leg of the 4x2 Sophomore James Artis takes the leap of his life. Catching the
man in front of him and passing his Artis is about to pass it to second leg senior,
NC State commit Jarius Morehead. As he get closer to Morehead his legs get
weak and he knows he is not going to make it. Added Morehead is taking off like
a shooting bullet. James has two opinions stop running and give up or he could
me the leap of his life.

Nicolas Kee : An awesome collegiate wrestler with NC roots.
Nicolas Kee was born In Scotland County, NC. He attended Scotland High School in his hometown and was able to start wrestling at the age of 6. To this day, he continues to wrestle. His record through both middle and high school years were 300-6 because he only had 6 losses. He was a 3x state champion, and even today he holds the record for most wins in NC. He now attends App State and starts as a freshmen, and he starts over 1 junior and one senior as well. What seems funny to me now is that my freshmen year of high school and when he was a senior, I had to wrestle him in the regional quarter final...and he pinned me in 10 seconds. Currently, he is studying to be a doctor at App. He plans to go to the Olympics after college.

A Season to Remember
This past year the men's basketball team went 20-6 overall this season. Now that doesn't say 'much' but for those who have followed the team around for the past few years, you would know why this was such a remarkable season for the Cats. The year started out with a huge win over power house Page High School. The boys also had season sweeps over Northeast Guilford and Northern Guilford which hasn't been done in a long time. It was also the first time in a while that the Wildcats were able to win the EGHS Christmas Tournament , with wins over River Mill Academy, Graham High School, and Riverside High School who came in very highly ranked. That's not all! The Wildcats made it to the NCHSAA 3A playoffs this year to play in the first round against the team they lost to last year; Rocky Mount High School. Despite all of the snow days delaying the game, The Wildcats finally got to play. With the help of the home crowd and spectators the Wildcats were able to come away victoriously and finally earned their first playoff win for the program in EGHS history. The next task for the Wildcats was to go to Johnson County and play against the Rams of Cleveland High School. The Wildcats were unable to pull out the victory against the Rams, but what a season it was for these boys. A special thanks to the 8 Seniors who helped lead the team.

Wrestling Wildcats!
The Wrestling Update
Last Tuesday, Eastern Guilford faced Trinity and Southeast Guilford in wrestling. The final score against Southeast was 33-30 in favor of Southeast. In the match against Trinity, we managed to pull out a win 36-33.
From weight classes 170-285 we won by pins, but we struggled in our lower weights. The next day, we had a tournament at Western Guilford High School and we only got a 1lb allowance, which meant we could only be over by 1 lbs for our tournament. The next day at Western , we took second out of 5 teams. Willie Bivens, Tim Johnson, and Jesus Ruiz went 4-0 at the tournament.
This Saturday is our tournament right here at Eastern, so come out and support your fellow Wrestling Wildcats!!!!
EGHS 2014-2015 Football Season Recap
EGHS 2014-2015
Football Season Recap
Your Eastern Guilford Wildcats went through lots of ups and downs this football season, with our first game being our first loss in the season against Southern Guilford High School football team. However, your Wildcats would not give up after their first game loss.
Your Wildcats went on a six game winning streak, destroying every team in their paths. Then, the most important game of the season came up against the Northern Guilford nighthawks, losing 22-21 on the senior night home game. Even that wouldn't stop your Wildcats from making it in the 3AA playoffs; 13th overall.
We lost in the first, but we wont give up. You will see the new stars getting ready to take the field next year, even stronger, faster, and better then last year, and another chance to bring it home. GO WILDCATS!!!!

The Honey Badger
The Honey Badger
Tyrann Mathieu
James-Anthony Artis
Tyrann Mathieu
is formally known as “the Honey Badger” for his fearless football mind set as a 5’9 165 pound FS/CB. Mathieu has marvelous ball hawking skills and a play-making mentality. As a sophomore, Mathieu was
already a high ranked candidate for the Heisman. Even though it took a lot of perseverance to get there, Mathieu failed several of drug tests and was suspended twice, so he
had to miss his junior and senior season playing for LSU. However, this did not stop him
though, because he had strong role models to help him. With aid from NFL all-star corner back Patrick Peterson and his father,
Mathieu got back on track to greatness and worked hard everyday for it. Then in
the 2013, NFL draft Mathieu was selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the 3rd
round, 7th pick, and 69th over all. Now Mathieu starts as
the free safety for the Cardinals.
The Legend of Kyle Dake
Kyle Dake wrestling
Kyle is from Ithaca, New York. As a kid, all he did was wrestle. He easily zipped through his competition in high school, but he had to work very hard as a freshman in college. During his freshman year, he was the only freshman to start for Cornell. He won the NCAA championship 4x. While in college, he was also a 4x All-American. What is special is that he won the NCAA title in four different weight classes : (141lbs) (149lbs) (157lbs) (165lbs). In 2013, he won the Hodge trophy which is like a Grammy but for wrestling. In April of 2013 (after his senior year), Kyle went on to continue his wrestling career in the Olympics. He plans to retire in the summer of 2017 from wrestling as whole and focus on being a lawyer.
EG Men's Basketball
Basketball season is approaching fast, and we need get behind our Wildcats as they start their season. The Wildcats have a great team this year consisting of 12 guys who are committed to playing Wildcat basketball. The team will have seniors Quayson Williams, Tré McLean, Kalin Cotton, Maurice Brown, Chandler Spencer and also a pretty good freshman in Montez Venable.
Coach Spinks is getting these guys prepared mentally and physically by conditioning them very well and getting their minds trained to do the right things in the game as the season comes to an open. The first game of the season is on November 18th against Western Guilford, but this is not a home game for the Wildcats. The first home game isn't until November 25th when the Wildcats welcome the Pirates of Page High School. This is the biggest game of the year for the Cats due to the great effort given by the boys last year forcing (said to be the best team in Greensboro) Page into a overtime. Therefore, we need everyone to come support those Wildcats as they strive for a perfect season. #HereComesEG

EGHS Wildcat Wrestling Preview
EGHS WILDCATS WRESTLING
I want to inform the student body of our wrestling program here at EGHS, as well as provide a preview of the upcoming season. We have five returning state qualifiers that include Tristan Zobro, Jesus Ruiz, Willie Bivens, Tim Johnson, and Roderick Porter. Two of them placed at the tournament. Tim Johnson took fourth and Wille Bivens took first and is now a 182 lbs state champ. Jesus Ruiz and Roderick Porter both went 1-2 at the tournament and Tristan Zobro went 0-2. Our program last year advanced past the conference to the state playoff round where they got past Cleveland High School with a tight score of 33-32 and then went on to lose to Union Pines High School with a score of 36-33. Union Pines went on to take third in the state. We are looking forward to see our Wildcats full of state qualifiers and state champs this year.
EGHS Student Athlete Profiles
Hello, I'm James-Anthony Artis, and I'm bringing the profiles of some of the best of your EGHS athlete as we show what it takes on and off the field.
The Life of an EGHS Athlete
Sports are beneficial and can lead to a well balanced healthy lifestyle because they teach teamwork, dedication, responsibility, and many other qualities you will rely on later in life. During the school year, there are multiple sports that are available to play: football, basketball, tennis, volleyball, softball, swim, and a variety of others. While all these sports can be helpful to our everyday lifestyle, they can also be stressful.
Being a athlete is most likely a 5th priority after first, being a person. Being an athlete is not always easy. For ANY sport, and sometimes our coaches forget that before we were an athlete, we were a student! Before a student we were something else! Therefore, we have more than just our athletic duties to be responsible for. With strenuous workouts and exhausting games, sometimes keeping a normal sleep schedule is out of the question. Cemere Petty, a sophomore here at EGHS, participating in 3 sports this year: Volleyball, Basketball, and track & field. When asked a various number of questions, her response was nothing less than predictable. "Playing sports and keeping up with school work effects the amount of rest I get every night." says Petty. With workouts, games school work, home responsibilities. things get difficult. As an athlete, I can relate to Petty. There are many day where I feel like sleeping for days on end.
What about grades? Sometimes maintaining the required grade average is a challenge. Kiley Sears, also a student at EGHS. Says " Practices, games, and meets take up of time, which gives me less time to study" To be on top of everything is exactly an easy task, it effects us not just as a person but as a student. Now, there are times where want to quit. However that should never be an option, because for some people. A football or baseball is all they have. Even though we shed our blood, sweat and tears for the love of our sport. We never give up. Cindy Seymour, our volleyball coach here at EGHS. says "As the season progresses I think its harder to get the athletes to give 100%" That may be true. We will become exhausted. However we do not give up so easily. As an athlete our mental mentality, our physical mentality and our will power is pushed harder and harder with every practice and every competition. it makes us stronger. We become fighters. Our determination never weakens.
However even though it is tough at times, its not all bad. When a number students were surveyed 8/10 students agree that their sport is fun! Once you join a sport, you join a team. You want to always have fun with your team. Your team becomes your family. There will come times when your self and your teammates don't get along. But at the end of the day. Your team, is who you pass the ball to, it's who you throw the football to, it's who you set the ball to. It's who you share your funny moments as well as your rough moments. The point is, with all an athlete gives to their sport, such as hard work, and dedication, it brings good times and bad times. Eventually..... it all pays off.

Domestic Violence: Superstar Athletes
According to multiple sports media sites, two NFL players have been penalized for their actions in domestic violence cases. Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson were officially let go from Nike last month due to domestic violence which put Ray Rice out of the NFL indefinitely, but there's another side to the story.
A female athlete also comes into play in this issue. Soccer player Hope Solo has also been charged for domestic violence. Solo being a Nike brand athlete also, did not get dropped from Nike ; now I don't understand this. Is this a double standard? How does Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson get dropped from Nike, but Hope Solo doesn't? They all had the same problem but the Male athletes got dropped while the female didn't. To me that is very unfair and unjust .

The Wrestling Life of Jordan Burroughs
The Wrestling Life of Jordan Burroughs
Jordan Burroughs is a resident of the Sicklerville section of Township, New Jersey. He began to get attention for his wrestling during his senior year after becoming a state champ for his school. He attended the University of Nebraska where he started as just a freshmen at 149lbs. He didn't do too well as a freshmen or as a sophomore. For instance, he finished his freshmen year 16-13 and his sophomore year 20-15. He was very determined to be better, so the next year he came back and was 41-0 and his senior year was 45-0. After he graduated, he still continued to wrestle, but now he was wrestling freestyle. It is very different style of wrestling. He said he going to retire in 2016 from wrestling and focus on becoming a sports editor.
Our 4-1 WILDCATS
LETS GOOOO WILDCATS!!!!Your one and only Eastern Guilford Wildcats football team are on a 4 way winning streak. With the Wildcats at the top of our conference they led McMichael High School football team 47-6. It was a blow out just in the first half with touchdowns from #17 Jarius Morehead, #2 Terral Pickett, and even # 8 Jacob Finnerty with the pick 6. With the wildcats mighty deffence holding McMichael down to only 1 touchdown and a minimum of 1st downs. But your wildcats did not stop at that, in the 4th quarter #22 James Artis ran a 40 yard touchdown for 6. So they sent McMichael High School home with a loss of 47- 6.
EGHS Homecoming Week (Pep Rally)
The festivities for Eastern Guilford High Schools homecoming started on last Monday; the beginning of spirit week with a theme of white out for freshmen , sophomores, juniors and black out for the seniors . Tuesday consisted of lots of twins walking around the school. Wednesday was a "wacky" day in Wildcat country as you saw lots of creative sides come out. Lots of different colors and styles. On Thursday, everyone took a blast to the past and participated in Throwback Thursday. This day was also a day of preparation for the wildcats as they capped off a hard week of practice with a huge pep rally consisting of lots of controllably rambunctious students reppin' their graduating class. This was a confidence booster for the wildcats as Friday night they took on the Morehead Panthers and successfully obliterated them with a 37-0 shutout victory to make those Wildcats 5-1. The consistency of The L.O.B defense and the tenacity of the Wildcats offensive line and the determination of Jarius Morehead, Yrral Davis, Zion Walker , and Terrell Pickett to put the ball in the end zone was just icing on the cake. We also found out who our new King and Queen were Tatianna Duviella and Ryan Williams being crowned just made the whole Wildcat homecoming a success.
