Fairy or Witch: Maleficent Movie Review

When you hear Maleficent what do you think of? Do you think of an evil witch that casted a spell on Princess Aurora or do you think of a fairy queen, who protects and watches over the land.

Maleficent the queen of fairies protects all the fairies from the King Henry. After she meets an orphaned boy named Stefan, she falls in love. After many years of getting to know Stefan, Stefan betrays Maleficent in order to replace King Henry on the thrown, by ripping off her wings. After years of being betrayed by Stefan, Maleficent becomes a dark enchantress, and finds Diaval, a raven that she casted a spell on to turn into a human. Maleficent can also turn Diaval into any other animal, including a dragon. After Maleficent gets news that King Stefan’s wife has had child, she makes a trip to the castle to see the baby. When she sees that three fairy godmother casted spells on Aurora to give her spectacular traits and qualities, she decides to make a wish of her own. On Aurora’s Sixteenth Birthday she is to prick her finger on a spinning wheel and she would be casted into a deep sleep until true loves kiss. King Henry is scared, mad, and sad all at once, so he gives the three fairy godmothers the job to watch over Aurora till her sixteenth birthday. So the three godmothers took Aurora out of the city to watch her peacefully in the wilderness. It turns out over the years the fairy godmothers weren’t watching Aurora, Maleficent was.

I give the movie Maleficent a four and half stars out of five, the reason being because the movie is a beautiful retelling of the original classic Sleeping Beauty. From the movie was also born a great song, entitled Once Upon A Time which is by Lana Del Rey. The song captures the essence of the movie and shows the emotion Maleficent feels. I recommend that you watch Maleficent the chance you get (it just came out on DVD), it is spectacular version of the original Sleeping Beauty and it tells the story of Princess Aurora and Maleficent to a new generation.
