Happy Birthday

If asked what I did on my very first birthday, my answer would be a blank expression. I think I speak for a lot of teens my age. Our first birthday was probably amazing, yet we can hardly re-call a time when we were so small. As we've grown, our minds have grown with us. We have developed faster, stronger, more complex, and more memorable minds. If you ask us what are eighth birthday was like, we remember pretty clearly for the most part. I wonder why that is? As we continue to grow, we hit our late 20's and 30's. Ask us again what our eighth was like? Just as our first. We can hardly. Now lets take a step forward, continuously growing. We've aged into our 40's and 50's. Although its unlikely, lets say someone ask you about your sixteenth birthday! Some don't care and some truly cant remember. But for some, its a quote like "whew, that was a long time ago child." or at least that's usually the response I receive. For some reason they tend to avoid the question. Its not that they cant remember. They just think of it as irrelevant or unimportant. Nor do they think they current birthday is much of a celebration. Not as it was in past years. Many get tired of making spectacles of  their birthday. Celebrating them for over 40 years, I'd become bored of them as well. But along the journey of your life you hit an area where your birthday has a much different meaning than it did before. You've now hit your 70's and 80's. I f your lucky. Your 90's. They are not about big parties, loud music, or fancy clothes. They are special. they're a way of reminding your self that your still here. To remind you how far you come, not how much you've aged. It's spending time with family, children, grandchildren, and long time friends. Its about cherishing the moments and memories you've created in your life. Sure you cant remember what your first birthday, or even your 30th birthday. Heck. You can't even remember what you had for breakfast. But don't feel bad! It's apart of life. We all get to that point. Feel blessed. God allowed you to be well and able to be here. Your birthday may not always be the best, and you may not always enjoy it. Therefore, I suggest you get used to them, and start being grateful for them, because you never know. It could be your last.
