STOP! PUT OUT DOWN THE PHONE

Teens that text and drive are more likely to cause accidents even though they don’t mean to cause the accident.  Statistics show that 95% of teens call texting and driving a serious threat but only 35% percent.  Teens are more likely to text because teens have the capacity to think that they are invincible. There have stories shared by victims who have experienced texting while driving and now have to pay the consequences.

Texting while driving is a serious issue. A man has been convicted of texting while driving in Massachusetts. Aaron Deveau who is 18 years old was found guilty of vehicular manslaughter and negligent operation of a motor vehicle. Deveau says "It was a mistake...If I could take it back I would." The consequence of his action was for his license was to be suspended for 15 months. The man that was in the other was Donald Bowey who was 55 years old and was fatally injured. Bowey's car was hit when Deveau's car crossed the center line. Bowey wasn't the only one in the car either his girlfriend Luz Roman who was 59 years old suffered serious injuries. This proves my point in saying that teens shouldn't text and drive.

Jackie Smith an EGHS sophomore says that he thinks that texting while driving is a serious issue. He thinks that there should be more highway patrolmen that way the people who are texting while driving won't put people at risk. He also had an experience of texting while driving he said that he was in the car with someone who was texting while driving and made him feel uncomfortable . It made him feel uncomfortable because the person that was driving was swerving and nearly ran off the road.

Selena Zobro an EGHS senior says that she thinks that texting while driving is a serious issue. She also thinks that the people should turn off their phone when they enter the car. She also has had an experience texting while driving. She was in the car with her older brother. She felt scared because he also kept swerving.

Another fellow EGHS student who wanted to remain anonymous says that she thinks texting while driving is a serious issue. She believes that the texter should be pulled over. She also has had an experience texting while driving she was in the car with someone and while they were texting she felt uncomfortable.

Angela Lowery-Taylor a Guilford Child Development teacher says that she believes texting while driving is a serious issue. She believes that a signal blocking device should  used in the car or that someone should have an alert system that allows the parent to see if their teen is texting while driving. She has been guilty of texting while driving before the law was passed and so has her son. She says that she was fearful for her son's safety and of the neighboring drivers safety as well.

An anonymous EGHS student says that he thinks texting while driving is a serious issue. He says that the drivers who are texting should be fined or pulled over. He says that his mom is guilty of texting while driving and that it makes him feel uncomfortable when he is in the car.

Finally, I think that texting while driving should be firmly enforced. People can pass a law but that does mean that people are going to follow it. Many laws are passed, but people pick and choose which law to follow at what time. I believe that there should be some type of alert system that shows the parents or the police that the person is texting while driving and it should give them the location as well. Texting while driving is a serious issue and should be enforced whether people like it or not.
