A Time to Remember : Teacher #throwbacks

It's so hard to believe that at one time our teachers were just like us: TEENAGERS! They had their own style and fashions, sayings and interests, and that they actually went to school. I interviewed three teachers to see what their thoughts were on high school.

EGHS Clubs

Clubs are like teams where everyone can belong! EGHS clubs include Service Learning, Beta, Student Council, Teacher Fit, etc. Not every activity has to end with TEAMS! Students clubs are the best.

1. Student Council.

2. I like Student Council because its fun and its also part of school work and you can plan any date you want for a sport or anything. Its just awesome.

3. Its not beneficial as far as grades, but definitely for the future because it will help my school records and college scholarship opportunities

1. Well I always go to their meetings and everything they do. I always participate in everything Student Council did.

2. Well I love being a president, and they interesting.

3. Yes, I liked it and it was so fun.

Logan Adkins was the second person I interviewed.

1. Chorus/Choir.

2. I enjoy singing and I can really sing.

3. I get as chorus so it puts a good representation on me.

1. I was in school chorus for 3 years.

2. It interest me by singing and doing things such as concerts.

3. Yes, I love being in choirs I enjoy singing activities that do with chorus.

The students at Eastern are sounding off about their favorite electives. I took a survey and interviewed several teenagers about their favorite electives, why its their favorite , if they would recommend it to others, and other electives they would like to have at this school. Courtney grade 11 said her favorite elective was dance "because I dance inside and outside of school".
Mackenzie grade 10 said her Favorite elective is Art "because I'm creative and I like to draw".
Katelyn grade 10 said " I don't really have a favorite elective I haven't found what I like yet"
Chandra says dance "because I'm good at it"

Would you recommend someone else to take your favorite class?

Mackenzie says "Sure! It's a great class"
Courtney says "No, because you have to have a passion for it"
Molly says " Yes, because they can be whoever they want to be and everyone comes together"
Emerald says "Yes, if they like to dance"

What classes do you want to have at Eastern?

Eastern is a great place to do what you love and hopefully more electives will be added.

Restaurants: Where would you go?

Each and every one of us has that specific restaurant that we love to go to every time; that restaurant we can never get enough of. For that reason I've been going around Eastern Guilford High School asking students about restaurants they enjoy going to; whether a fast food restaurant like McDonalds or a traditional one like Red Lobster. As I surveyed students I was able to learn about the different tastes we all have.

What is your favorite restaurant?
-Jeanae Dodd: McDonalds. I love going there because it tastes delicious and because I've been going there since I was three.

-Aaliyah Wynn: Ihop is my favorite restaurant because I love pancakes and can eat them all day.

-Lauren Clinkscales: California Pizza Kitchen. I love Pizza, but theirs is really really good.

What do you look for when going to a restaurant?
Brianna Davis: I look for clean bathrooms, polite, and positive staff.

Mikayla Lockridge: Good food and attentive, caring, and positive staff.

I was able to do a survey among EGHS students to see whether they would choose a fast food restaurant or a traditional and elegant restaurant and the results were that 3 out of 5 students prefer a fast food restaurant over a traditional one.

The Life of an EGHS Athlete

           Sports are beneficial and can lead to a well balanced healthy lifestyle because they teach teamwork, dedication, responsibility, and many other qualities you will rely on later in life. During the school year, there are multiple sports that are available to play: football, basketball, tennis, volleyball, softball, swim, and a variety of others. While all these sports can be helpful to our everyday lifestyle, they can also be stressful.
           Being a athlete is most likely a 5th priority after first, being a person. Being an athlete is not always easy. For ANY sport, and sometimes our coaches forget that before we were an athlete, we were a student! Before a student we were something else! Therefore, we have more than just our athletic duties to be responsible for. With strenuous workouts and exhausting games, sometimes keeping a normal sleep schedule is out of the question. Cemere Petty, a sophomore here at EGHS, participating in 3 sports this year: Volleyball, Basketball, and track & field. When asked a various number of questions, her response was nothing less than predictable. "Playing sports and keeping up with school work effects the amount of rest I get every night." says Petty. With workouts, games school work, home responsibilities. things get difficult. As an athlete, I can relate to Petty. There are many day where I feel like sleeping for days on end.
           What about grades? Sometimes maintaining the required grade average is a challenge. Kiley Sears, also a student at EGHS. Says " Practices, games, and meets take up of time, which gives me less time to study" To be on top of everything is exactly an easy task, it effects us not just as a person but as a student. Now, there are times where want to quit. However that should never be an option, because for some people. A football or baseball is all they have. Even though we shed our blood, sweat and tears for the love of our sport. We never give up. Cindy Seymour, our volleyball coach here at EGHS. says "As the season progresses I think its harder to get the athletes to give 100%" That may be true. We will become exhausted. However we do not give up so easily. As an athlete our mental mentality, our physical mentality and our will power is pushed harder and harder with every practice and every competition. it makes us stronger. We become fighters. Our determination never weakens.
            However even though it is tough at times, its not all bad. When a number students were surveyed 8/10 students agree that their sport is fun! Once you join a sport, you join a team. You want to always have fun with your team. Your team becomes your family. There will come times when your self and your teammates don't get along. But at the end of the day. Your team, is who you pass the ball to, it's who you throw the football to, it's who you set the ball to. It's who you share your funny moments as well as your rough moments. The point is, with all an athlete gives to their sport, such as hard work, and dedication, it brings good times and bad times. Eventually..... it all pays off.
